In this article I am going to talk to you about how you can stop panic attacks and also how to prevent yourself from getting into a panic state. Throughout this article I will make suggestions on how to ease on hopefully cure your panic attacks. However my advice is not a replacement for that of a qualified doctor. These tips are just some I picked up on my travels.

What is a panic attack?

A panic attack in simple scientific terms is the release of adrenaline throughout your body. This is a survival instinct that your body relied on earlier in our existence. The goal of it is to heighten your awareness to deal with the issue that is endangering you. However the side effects of this release are what causes symptoms like an increased heart rate, shakes and sensory overload.

The best way to stop a panic attack

The fastest way to stop a panic attack is to prevent it happening. Realize the warning signs and prevent it there and then. The first thing to do is realize you are heading into a panic attack. Remind yourself that it is nothing more than a panic attack and you are in no serious danger. This is how to stop a panic attack before it starts. Tell yourself that you don't need to have a panic attack.

To effectively do this you must try and keep calm. Slow your breathing down first and try and relax your in take of air. Focus on this first as it will be more beneficial to you through the following couple of minutes if you can talk to yourself calmly.

Once you have your breathing calmed continue to tell yourself that this is just a panic attack and that you can overcome it. Believe what your saying after all you need to remember that what's causing this panic attack is a chemical release in your body a release that by calming yourself you are already stopping. Be firm and continue to tell yourself that you are in control of this and can overcome it. After all it's only a panic attack. You need to see it as what it should be a petty annoyance that you can keep calm through. This will help.

Do not let your mind become negative

This is something you can do even outside the realms of dealing with panic attacks. We constantly talk to ourselves in our head and sometimes we don't even actively listen to what we're saying. It just slips into background noise. Next time, and this may sound stupid but try it, your inner voice kicks off actually listen to it. Is it putting you down or just being negative about you? Confront it. I did warn you it sounds silly but it does work. You need to tell your inner voice "That's bullshit". Train it to focus on the positives. This is not easy as you are probably well into the habit of thinking negatively, trust me you're not alone. All of us do it to an extent but with a bit of work you can become friends with your inner self and they are a hell of an ally in stopping panic attacks and preventing panic attacks in the future.

In summary

If all else fails and you start to sink in to that panic attack continue to remind yourself that you have been through this before and survived. You will be fine. Noticing that you are just having an attack is how to cure panic attacks. Like how the attack spirals down realizing you are having one can actually reverse the spiral
