The Joy Of Soccer Goals

The Other Use For Jumpers - Soccer Goals

As a kid I spend every day I could out in the park playing soccer with a group of friends. I loved it, the game has alway ran through my blood. The fresh air and exercise probably didn't do me any harm either. But everyday the same arguments would crop up and when I say crop I mean blare. The argument's born out of "Jumpers For Goalposts". I'm sure I'm not alone in this phenemonon either.

You see back then you couldn't buy a set of portable soccer goals so you did with the best you could be it a jumper, a traffic cone or a somewhat straight branch. They weren't exactly the best soccer goals though. There was no crossbar for a start so you could only judge where it was by how high the goalie - usually me - did or didn't jump. This of course was a very debatable point depending on which team you were on.

The other issue came up more with jumpers and that was when the ball rolled over them, not that it didn't happen when the ball went over the aforementioned stick or traffic cone. Did it go in? Would it have bounced back out? Would it have gone in off. These questions jogging any memories? These rows would often consume a game of soccer on their best days and on their worst put a strain on friendships. Best mates would often fall out, well at least for 24 hours.

Thankfully them days are coming to a close. Nowadays you can pick up a set of cheap soccer goals online or in your local store. Though if you're buying locally I suggest you bring a car! Most come in a 10 foot wide by 6 foot high measurements and are made out of light materials so you can move them around. If you are buying a set you really should consider the weight when purchasing. After a tough game I don't want to lug a heavy frame off with me.

For the more grown up kids out there you can also get sets in 12 foot by 8 foot and if you have a really brave gaolkeeper you could try and find a full size set which measure 8 feet high and 24 feet wide!

There is a different type of goals too though for smaller kick abouts.

These are fantastic little goals.Used by professional clubs all over the world for training. They are very small and can be used for games of 1-on-1 or 5-a-side. They are great for improving your accuracy as any big toe shots are going to miss. They are aslo very easy to assemble and usually you playing as fast as you can pick a team.

In Summary

The days of squabbling over whether a shot went in or not are over. Cheap, portable, high quality goals have put an end to that and allowed us to get on with the game. It's not just an add-on but rather an experience changer as games become more fun. Nothing beats the whoosh sound as a ball smashes against the net.

I know for a lot of you reading here you have since moved on to local clubs or astro pitches but for those that have a big garden or a local green area and still enjoy playing for a bit of fun you will get hard to find a better investment.

May I use the Pugg Soccer Goal in a cartoon in a book for kids about soccer that I'm doing? If you would like a credit or the URL for purchase listed, tell me what it is.

Thanks.
